Steel Links Documentary: Building It's Visual Identity and Motion Graphics.
Steel Links is a WQED-commissioned documentary produced by Brad Turkel that explores the resilience and cultural depth of the greater Pittsburgh metropolitan area. I was responsible for the title art and the visual identity for the film and its promotional materials.
The brief called for a simple, clean approach that would support the narrative without imposing a heavy stylistic layer—letting the film speak for itself. Working in Illustrator and After Effects, I began by mapping the frame’s real estate and establishing a structural grid. From there, I introduced subtle, refined motion to create a sense of quiet sophistication throughout.
The final title treatment aligns with the film’s themes, reinforcing the story’s industrial rigor and underlying weight while complementing the documentary’s visual language.
